**Samastipur.** In a bizarre and unsettling scene at the post-mortem house of Samastipur Sadar Hospital in Bihar, a self-proclaimed ‘tantrik’ (occulist) attempted to revive the body of a 15-year-old boy who had died of snakebite, moments before doctors were to begin the autopsy. The incident, now widely circulated on social media, has sparked shock and disbelief across the state.

The teenager’s body had been brought to the hospital after his death earlier in the day. As medical staff prepared to wheel the body inside on a trolley, a man wearing a helmet entered the premises, introducing himself as a “Bhagat" (a local term for a faith healer). Identified as Akhilesh Kumar Rai, the man claimed he could bring the boy back to life through ritual practices.

Witnesses say Rai spent over 30 minutes performing what he described as a tantra-mantra ritual. He alternated between placing his hand on the boy’s chest, checking his pulse, and closing his eyes in meditation. At one point, he fashioned a whip out of a towel, striking the body, while an aide massaged the teenager’s feet. Family members, visibly distressed but hopeful, watched as dozens of onlookers crowded into the room, some filming the scene.

The atmosphere was tense, with many waiting for a “miracle" that never came. Eventually, Rai claimed that the boy’s life could not be restored because doctors had given him saline, which, he alleged, had “disrupted the energy" needed for revival. Apologising to the grieving family with folded hands, the tantrik left the hospital.

Hospital staff then proceeded with the scheduled post-mortem. Dr PD Sharma, posted in the emergency ward, dismissed the tantrik’s claims outright. “No such procedure can revive a dead body. We understand the family’s emotions, but according to science and medicine, it is impossible to bring back life once a person has died," he said.

The incident has triggered a wave of online reactions, with many criticising the intrusion of unscientific practices into a medical facility. The boy’s body was later handed over to his family for final rites.
