Araria: The long-standing political legacy of former RJD stalwart and Seemanchal’s influential leader, late Taslimuddin—often hailed as Seemanchal Gandhi—has come to an end with the defeat of both his sons in the Jokihat assembly constituency.Taslimuddin’s two sons—former state revenue minister and ex-MP Sarfaraz Alam, contesting on a Jan Suraaj ticket lost the election, while his younger brother and former disaster management minister Md Shahnawaj, who fought on an RJD ticket, also failed to retain the seat.Shahnawaj had earlier won Jokihat on an AIMIM ticket before shifting to the RJD along with other AIMIM MLAs. AIMIM candidate Md Murshid Alam defeated both Shahnawaj and Sarfaraz Alam.
The victory also reinforces AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s strategic influence—proving that the party leadership not only had the power to make Shahnawaj win earlier but also the ability to defeat him this time.AIMIM’s triumph reflects a significant shift in Seemanchal’s political landscape. Voters have clearly moved away from traditional political inheritance and shifted towards leaders who demonstrate accountability, ground-level work, and commitment to local issues.
With this result, AIMIM has firmly positioned itself as a credible and independent political alternative in the region, breaking long-held vote-bank monopolies. As AIMIM succeeded in retaining its five assembly seats in Seemanchal including Jokihat, Baisi, Amour, Bahadurganj and Kochadhan.
