Taylor Swift is being linked to an unusual soccer superstition in Brazil, right as her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, gets ready for his first NFL game in the country.
On Friday, September 5, 2025, the Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers at NeoQuimica Arena in Sao Paulo. Local fans of Corinthians, the Brazilian soccer club hosting the game, believe Swift brings good fortune to their team because of a quirky record tied to her album release dates.
Taylor Swift’s music and Corinthians’ unbeaten superstition in Travis Kelce's game
Corinthians fans noticed years ago that their team often avoided losses in matches played right before or after Taylor Swift’s album releases.
Since her debut in 2006, Corinthians went unbeaten in almost all of those games, with 13 wins and seven draws until last year. The link became a running joke, but it soon grew into a superstition.
Fans even created memes of Swift in black-and-white, the club’s colors. Some took it further, wearing Swift-inspired outfits at games. “I laughed at first, but then saw more coincidences. Taylor signed her first contract on September 1, the same day Corinthians was founded in 1910,” said Rebeca Gois, a 32-year-old marketing writer who lives near the stadium.
But the record broke in 2024, when Corinthians lost the games tied to the release of “The Tortured Poets Department.” Still, with Swift possibly attending the Chiefs game at their stadium this Friday, fans say the connection feels alive again.
Corinthians fans keep the Taylor Swift tradition alive
For Corinthians supporters, the fun rivalry adds spice. Many use it to tease archrival Palmeiras, whose Allianz Parque stadium hosted all three of Swift’s Sao Paulo concerts during her Eras Tour in 2023.
“People started to look for that connection to make fun of Palmeiras fans. Then Corinthians fans kept finding more links,” said Nataly Nascimento, a 25-year-old teacher from Brazil’s Northeast. Also Read: Will Taylor Swift Attend Travis Kelce And Chiefs Game In Brazil On September 5Nascimento admitted some fans felt the superstition had ended after last year’s losses. But she added, “What actually happened was that the team was doing so badly that not even Taylor could save us.”Corinthians, currently 12th in the Brazilian league with 26 points after 22 matches, will play Internacional on October 1 and then Sao Paulo’s countryside team on October 4, right after Swift’s next album, “The Life of a Show Girl,” drops on October 3.For others, like lawyer Sidney Abreu, the focus is simple: “As long as Corinthians wins those matches, she can come here and release her albums whenever she likes.”
