TCS offers up to Rs 40,000 referral bonus to speed up hiring

BENGALURU: TCS has relaunched its internal employee referral programme, Bring Your Buddy (BYB), with enhanced referral bonuses to strengthen talent acquisition amid rising demand for digital-first skills.

Under the scheme, referral bonuses are linked to how quickly a candidate joins after receiving an offer — the faster the referred candidate onboards, the higher the bonus payout. Employees can earn Rs 40,000 if the candidate they referred joins within 30 days. The payout reduces to Rs 30,000 for joining within 31–45 days, Rs 20,000 for 46–60 days, and Rs 15,000 for 61–90 days. The incentive applies to mid-level grades C1 to C5 — professionals with four to 15 years of industry experience — reflecting the company’s focus on strengthening its mid-management layer.

TCS has been investing in this cohort through a mid-level transformation programme aimed at reskilling and preparing associates for new-age technology demands. The refreshed referral push now encourages this segment to bring in peers with similar expertise and domain depth.

An internal communication dated February 19 framed the initiative as more than a hiring mechanism, positioning it as a way for employees to “shape tomorrow” by referring professionals aligned with TCS’s culture and long-term transformation agenda.

“We have stepped into a bold new future; one that calls for fresh perspectives, new ideas, and the accurate expertise,” the note said, adding that meaningful change comes from individuals who combine new energy with the firm’s values. In response to TOI’s queries, TCS said it continues to attract top talent and added over 85,000 associates in calendar year 2025. "Our ‘Bring Your Buddy’ programme is a long‑standing internal referral initiative that has been in place for over two decades.” The revised structure marks a shift from the earlier model, where referral bonuses were typically credited after the candidate completed six months in the organisation. By tying incentives to faster joining timelines, the company appears to be aiming to reduce offer drop-offs and speed up lateral onboarding in a competitive talent market where specialised skills remain in short supply. The current referral window applies to offers rolled out between January 16 and March 31, 2026, provided the candidate successfully joins. Roles listed under the programme include positions across Salesforce, Oracle and ServiceNow platforms, highlighting demand for specialised digital skills as IT firms recalibrate mid-level hiring strategies toward faster deployment cycles and project-ready expertise in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
