A couple, who along with eight others, kidnapped their daughter for property was arrested by Anantapur police. The couple abducted their daughter to forcibly get the property on her name as she was the only bread-winner of the family and they left to fend themselves after her marriage, the police said.
According to Kalyandurg deputy superintendent of police Ravibabu, the victim, Marutamma of Tagguparti village in Belaguppa mandal was working as a Special Grade teacher since 2016 and was presently posted as in MPP school at Kurakulapalle in Kambadur mandal of the district. She was the sole breadwinner in the family and had to take care of her parents 61-year-old Munige Anand and 55-year-old Sailaja apart from her sister Mahalakshmi’s family.
With the small savings she made, Marutamma purchased a house plot in Anantapur and some jewels. Recently, Marutamma got in love with a person E. Erriswamy of Tagguparti village and was seeking her parents’ nod for marriage.
As her parents were reluctant, Marutamma got married to Erriswamy whowas already married and had two children. Angered over this, the couple and nine others kidnapped the woman when she was proceeding to her home along with Erriswamy on June 12 and took her to Bengaluru. She was confined in the residence of one of their relative, Babu, and was tortured and asked to transfer the properties on her name to them. They also threatened to kill her if she did not marry one of their relative, Yellappa.
Fearing that her parents will kill her, she agreed and all of them started to Kalyandurg in a SUV. Police, who were searching for her based on a complaint by Erriswamy, intercepted the vehicle and freed her. The couple and eight others were arrested while another accused is absconding.
