The classical games in the final ended in draws, pushing the match into the rapid tiebreaks. The first game, with Divya playing White, ended evenly. But in the second, with the Black pieces, the teenager held her nerve brilliantly.
Under severe time pressure, 38-year-old Humpy made key errors in the endgame.
Divya seized her chance, converting her advantage with confidence to seal a memorable win. With this victory, Divya not only lifts the World Cup but also secures her final Grandmaster norm, officially earning the GM title. She becomes just the fourth Indian woman and the 88th Indian overall to achieve this honour. Divya's campaign was remarkable for her fearless style and sharp preparation, despite not being among the pre-tournament favourites. Her triumph highlights the strength of the new generation of Indian chess players making their mark on the world stage. This World Cup win is a breakthrough moment in Divya’s career and a proud day for Indian chess. At just 19, she has made history and announced herself as a future force in global chess.
