What began as a routine Ganga bath during a family trip ended in tragedy when a tech professional from Ghaziabad drowned, and his neighbour lost his life trying to rescue him in Haridwar.

The victims, Sachin Tyagi, 39, and Brijesh Kumar Tripathi, 43, lived in the same tower at a residential society in Ghaziabad and had travelled together with their families on a pilgrimage.

According to information, the incident took place on Sunday morning when both men went for a dip in the Ganga.

Sachin Tyagi is believed to have slipped into a deeper stretch of water and was caught in the strong current. Seeing him struggle, Brijesh Tripathi rushed in to help.

Within moments, both men were pulled into the deep waters and disappeared.

People present at the spot raised an alarm, prompting an immediate response from police and divers.

SEARCH OPERATION ENDS IN HEARTBREAK

A search and rescue operation continued for over an hour.

When the two were finally pulled out of the river, they had already died.

Locals said the spot where the incident occurred earlier had a proper ghat, but soil accumulation over time had altered the riverbed, making it difficult to judge the depth of the water.

FAMILIES ON PILGRIMAGE, RETURN IN GRIEF

Both families had left from Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad two days earlier. Sachin Tyagi had travelled in an Innova with his family, while Brijesh Tripathi’s family came in a Creta.

They were expected to return the same evening. Instead, news of their deaths reached home, leaving their residential society in shock.

LIVES BEHIND THE TRAGEDY

Sachin Tyagi lived with his wife and two daughters. He worked in the construction business. His parents stay with his elder brother in another society.

Brijesh Tripathi, his neighbour, lived with his family and worked with a Gurugram-based company.

A resident, Ravindra Tyagi, said both families had travelled together, making the loss even more devastating for the community.
