Bengaluru’s morning rush-hour traffic faced major disruption on October 30 after a Namma Metro train developed a technical snag between Vijayanagar and Hosahalli stations around 9.15 a.m., leading to the suspension of services on the Purple Line between Kempegowda (Majestic) metro station and Challagatta.
The disruption had a cascading effect on the Green Line, affecting thousands of commuters across the city.
According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), train services up to Mysuru Road were restored by 10.15 a.m. while normal operations between Mysuru Road and Challagatta resumed around 11 a.m. The BMRCL apologised for the inconvenience.
Passengers described chaotic scenes inside trains and stations during the disruption.
“When I boarded the train at Mysuru Road metro station around 9.40 a.m., there were people who had been trying to reach their destinations since 8.40 a.m.,” said Pavithra S, a regular commuter.
Another commuter, Shashi Kumar, said that trains were stranded between Attiguppe and Vijayanagar, with packed coaches and little information from staff. “The train was jam-packed after operations resumed. This isn’t the first time BMRCL has faced such technical issues. A detailed investigation should be conducted to prevent such breakdowns,” he said.
