Teen crashes SUV into two at Verna, 1 dead, other critical

Vasco: A 23-year-old woman Anisha Borkar died on the spot, while Akshata Naik was critically injured, when a speeding SUV driven by a teenager crashed into them when they were crossing the road at Verna on Saturday morning.Borkar was a Quepem resident, while Naik is a resident of Ulga, Karwar.The two women, are employed at Medizest, a pharmaceutical company, at IDC, Verna and were headed to their work place when the accident occurred.Accused Jonathan Xavier Pereira (19), a resident of Agasaim and a student of Padre Conceicao College, Verna, was arrested by Verna police, under Sections 281, 125 (B), 106 (1) of BNS and Sections 196, 190 (2) of M V Act.Police said the accident occurred at around 8.20am when the two women were crossing the main road near the Hyundai showroom at Verna, while the SUV was heading towards Margao from Panaji via the Titan junction.The SUV was driven by the accused in a rash and negligent manner, police said.PSI Pramila Fernandes is investigating further into the case under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar.
