Teen's brawl with cops over liquor seizure at birthday party, father arrested

A 19-year-old man clashed with police personnel after they raided a high-profile party held to celebrate his businessman father's birthday at a hotel in Gujarat's Surat. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the teenager getting out of the car and trying to snatch the phone of a police official before he was restrained.

According to Nidhi Thakur of Surat City Police, police received information about a liquor party at a hotel and alcohol being brought in a car outside the building. Police also got a tip-off that there were several high-profile attendees at the party, and subsequently arrested the teen and his father, Sameer Shah.

A team led by the sub-inspector of Althan police station then arrived at the spot and confiscated a carton of liquor bottles, along with a mobile phone and a car, amounting to Rs 3.16 lakh during the raid.

The party was attended by around 200 people, but it was not known whether all of them were drunk, Nidhi Thakur said.

The police then arrested the teenager, wearing a green shirt, and his father, who is dressed in black formals, as seen in the video. Shah and his wife are also seen intervening and trying to pacify the police.

Police gave a breathlyser to the 19-year-old, who was found not to be drunk. But, since alcohol was found in the car, police had to take action against the accused.
