The political tussle between Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav’s two sons — leader of opposition in the Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, and former minister Tej Pratap Yadav is getting intense ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, with Tej Pratap unfollowing his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, on social media platform X.

Tej Pratap, who was expelled from the party, had previously unfollowed his elder sisters, Misa Yadav and Hema Yadav, and now follows only five accounts, including just three family members: his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, his mother, Rabri Devi, and his sister, Raj Lakshmi Yadav.

In a fresh twist to Bihar’s political landscape, the estranged RJD leader, who leads the newly formed Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), has announced that his party will unveil its candidate list on October 13. He further announced that he will contest the poll from the Mahua constituency, the same seat he won during the 2015 elections, while still being a member of the RJD.

“I will declare my candidates the day after tomorrow. Parso jordaar ailaan hoga (Day after tomorrow big announcements will be made)…I will contest from Mahua. I am only concerned with the people of Mahua and no one else. The day I file my nomination from the Mahua constituency, I will distribute sweets to everyone," the JJD founder said as quoted by news agency PTI.

When asked about reportedly unfollowing his brother on social media, he said, “Don’t ask me such questions, which have no meaning."

The RJD patriarch had expelled his eldest son from the party and the Yadav family for six years after a social media post went viral.

The post, containing a photograph of a woman named Anushka Yadav, claimed that Tej Pratap had been in a relationship with her for the past 12 years.

The post created uproar in Bihar’s political circles, giving ammunition to rivals and deepening divisions within the RJD.

Tej Pratap later denied making the post, claiming that his Facebook account had been hacked and accusing his detractors of uploading the controversial content as part of a larger conspiracy. Yadav had tied the knot with Aishwarya, granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai. However, within a few months, Aishwarya left his house alleging that she was driven out by her husband and in-laws, and the couple’s divorce petition is pending before the family court.

After his expulsion from the RJD and distancing from Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family, former minister Tej Pratap Yadav has launched a new political platform under the banner of ‘Team Tej Pratap Yadav’.

The first phase of the Bihar Assembly polls will take place on November 6, and the second phase will happen on November 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14.
