 JP Nadda assures supply; urges fair distribution, backs state appeal

HYDERABAD: Union chemicals and fertilisers minister JP Nadda on Wednesday assured farmers in Telangana that the central govt will support them by guaranteeing adequate supply of fertilisers.

He issued a statement to this effect. On Tuesday, a delegation, led by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, met with the Union minister in Delhi and requested sufficient supply of urea and fertilisers for the state. The Telangana team emphasized the need for a continuous supply of urea during the kharif season, especially in July and Aug.

'Ensure fair distribution'In response to the chief minister's appeal, Union minister Nadda committed to supporting the farmers' requirements.

He directed officials from the fertiliser department to ensure the necessary supply for Telangana. Additionally, he urged state govt officials to ensure that fertilisers were distributed fairly across different districts and not misappropriated for non-agricultural uses.Simultaneously, Nadda expressed concern over spike in consumption of urea in Telangana. He pointed out that urea sales were expected to increase by 21% in the 2024-25 season compared to the 2023-24 season.He also mentioned that the central govt was providing incentives to state govts through the Pranam scheme to mitigate the use of chemical fertilisers and to encourage organic and natural farming.
