A bill for rights, protection and welfare of gig workers is set to receive approval of Telangana Cabinet at the proposed meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday (November 12, 2025), said Labour Minister Vivek Venkat Swamy. Thereafter, it would be introduced in the Assembly.
Over four lakh gig workers in Telangana are engaged in delivery of food, packages and other trades in the sector. The State government has introduced a draft bill titled Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025, in April of this year. The government placed the draft bill in public domain, inviting suggestions on it from people concerned, stakeholders. Grievance redressal mechanism, income security, work conditions, Social Security and Welfare Fund were some of the key provisions in the draft bill.

Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad on Thursday (November 6, 2025), Mr. Venkat Swamy said that the Government is thoroughly examining how the new legislation would be of use, changes it needs. Measures would be taken to secure their future and provide rights.
