The first Telangana State-level Women Police Officers’ Conference began on Wednesday (August 20) at the Telangana State Police Academy, bringing together around 400 officers from across the State.

The three-day conference was inaugurated by Dansari Anasuya, Minister for Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Rural Water Supply, Women Welfare and Child Development.

Police Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht briefed the Minister on the objectives of the conference, explaining that officers from constable to DGP rank would be divided into five groups to deliberate on key issues. A consolidated report of their recommendations will be submitted to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the end of the programme.

In her address, Minister Anasuya urged women officers to serve with dedication, discipline and dignity while adapting to changing circumstances. She stressed the importance of courage and commitment in policing, and encouraged participants to use the platform to voice concerns and offer suggestions.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to women and child welfare and promised improved training, safety and facilities for women in the force, including those from rural backgrounds.

The Minister also suggested creating a dedicated cell for women police issues under the DGP, setting up counselling services to reduce stress, and sending a study team to review best practices in Tamil Nadu and other States.

“Women officers should never end up as victims themselves in police stations,” she cautioned.

The event was attended by senior officers including Additional DGPs Swathi Lakra, Balanagadevi and Charu Sinha, DIG Rama Rajeshwari, and DIG Vineet from Madhya Pradesh.

The Minister and dignitaries were felicitated during the programme, which also featured addresses by Deputy Directors G. Kavitha and Venkateshwarlu.
