HYDERABAD
The Telangana government has submitted proposals to the Centre to extend the Samaveshi Ajeevika Yojana (SAY), an inclusive livelihoods programme under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), to another 8,000 extremely vulnerable households in the State.
The State government, under its Telangana Inclusive Livelihoods Programme (TGILP), part of NRLM, is already targeting 6,000 rural households from the most marginalised groups, focusing on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), other tribals, Joginis (officially called Devadasis), and economically disadvantaged households.
Under this programme, which follows the proven “Graduation approach”, 3,554 out of 6,000 targeted households from 70 villages have been identified for support through a time-bound intervention spanning 36 months.
“The primary objective of the programme is to enhance both the economic and social empowerment of rural poor households. It aims to provide comprehensive, inclusive livelihood interventions to foster long-term prosperity, self-confidence, and social inclusion,” said National Mission Manager, NRLM, Killi Jayaram.
“We have chosen households from Narva mandal of Narayanpet district, Tadvai and Kannaigudem mandals of Mulugu, Amrabad and Padra from Nagarkurnool, Tiryani and Lingapur mandals of Komram Bheem Asifabad, and Kodangal from Vikarabad district.
“The programme has a total budget of ₹30 crore and two years’ duration. It provides coaching and consumption support grants, including food baskets for six months, to the poorest households,” he said, saying that another 8,000 households from the existing mandals and new districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Adilabad, and Gadwal Jogulamba, will be covered under the Samaveshi Ajeevika Yojana, which is an inclusive livelihoods programme under the DAY-NRLM.
The programme’s implementation will be structured across multiple levels — mandal, district and State. The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) will serve as the primary body responsible for implementing the programme, supported by partner organisations engaged by BRAC International.
As part of the DAY-NRLM, training on backyard poultry has been provided to the project participants in Tadvai mandal of Mulugu district. Under this programme, support will be provided to sustainable livelihoods, asset creation, and improved financial inclusion.
“A total of 108 coaches were already deployed to extend support to project participant households. They are SHG members from the same village to handhold 30-35 households,” said SERP CEO Divya Devarajan.
