Telangana shocker: 70-year-old man sentenced to 20 years RI for sexually abusing minor; imposes Rs 50,000 fine in POCSO case

HYDERABAD: A 70-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a six-year-old girl in Telangana’s Khammam district.On 6 August, the Khammam District Additional Judge convicted Cherukuri Lalayya, a resident of Gollapaddu village in Wyra mandal, and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.According to the prosecution, on 2 February 2024, Lalayya lured the girl while she was playing outside her house, took her to his home, and committed the offence. Following a complaint, Wyra police registered a case under the POCSO Act and investigated the matter.
