NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old constable was allegedly stabbed to death by a habitual offender after he was caught in connection with a case in Nizamabad city, police said on Saturday.The incident occurred between 8:30pm and 9pm on October 17, when the accused attacked constable E Pramod with a knife on his chest while he was being taken on a two-wheeler to a police station in Nizamabad city, police said.
The assailant fled the scene, and Pramod later succumbed to his injuries.
Expressing grief over the constable’s death, director general of police (DGP) B Shivadhar Reddy directed Nizamabad Police Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya to form special teams to arrest the accused, who was reportedly involved in chain snatching and theft cases.The DGP also instructed inspector general of police (IGP) Multi Zone-I S Chandrashekhar Reddy to visit Nizamabad, monitor the situation, console the constable’s family, and provide necessary assistance.A search operation has been launched to apprehend the accused based on available evidence. A murder case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.(With agencies inputs)
