The State government has decided to present full facts pertaining to the much-publicised Kaleshwaram project to the judicial commission headed by retired judge Justice P.C. Ghose before June 30.

The State Cabinet, which met there on Monday, discussed in detail the communication from the judicial commission about the proceedings relating to the Kaleshwaram project, including the discussions in the then State Cabinet. The meeting discussed the questions raised by the judicial panel on the manner in which the previous government had given its approval to the project, as also the report submitted by the Cabinet sub-committee in which Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and BJP MP Eatala Rajender were members.

The Cabinet has criticised the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi for its attempts to cover up its misdeeds in permitting Andhra Pradesh to lift 400 tmcft of Godavari water through the Polavaram-Banakacherla project, harming the interests of Telangana. The BRS government, which accepted the lifting of 400 tmcft of Godavari water, was now trying to cast aspersions on the Congress government with political motives, the Cabinet felt, asserting its commitment to protect the share of Telangana in Godavari waters.

“The Cabinet has resolved to go to any extent to protect the interests of the State in Godavari water allocation. It has been resolved to submit the information it has in writing to the judicial commission before the deadline,” Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said. The Cabinet approved the sports policy for the State, the first since the inception of Telangana, aimed at promoting sports culture and harnessing the talent of the youth.

The Cabinet discussed the disbursement of Rythu Bandhu investment support to farmers and decided to organise celebrations across the State for achieving total disbursement of the amounts into the accounts of all eligible farmers within nine days. The State-level celebration would be held in front of the State Secretariat, while similar events would be organised in all districts and mandal headquarters. The CM will launch the celebrations at the Rajiv Gandhi statue in front of the Secretariat.

The Cabinet resolved to install statues of Telangana Talli, modelled on the lines of the one set up in the State Secretariat, at all district collectorates and directed the district collectors to complete their installation by November 9. In addition, it had approved the regional ring road between Choutuppal and Sangareddy spanning 201 km.
