A government school teacher in Telangana’s Vikarabad district has been suspended after allegedly bringing what was claimed to be a cow’s brain into a classroom as part of a science demonstration. The incident occurred at the Zilla Parishad High School for Girls in Yalal mandal, Tandur constituency.
On Tuesday, a science teacher, identified as Khaseem B, reportedly brought the brain to demonstrate what the human brain looks like to Class 10 students. The teacher is said to have taken photos with the specimen and posed inside the classroom, later sharing the images in the school’s WhatsApp group. Some students objected to the act and expressed discomfort, but the teacher allegedly ignored their concerns.
When other teachers at the school came to know of the incident, they confronted Khaseem B, prompting him to delete the photographs. However, word of the event spread quickly, sparking a protest on Wednesday by leaders of the BJP and members of Hindu groups outside the school premises.
Protesters demanded the immediate suspension of the teacher, questioning how such a display could be allowed in an educational setting, particularly when alternatives such as three-dimensional models or digital learning tools were available. They also voiced concern over the religious sensitivities involved, given the nature of the specimen.
Police arrived at the scene and assured the protesters that appropriate action would be taken. Following this assurance from the Rural Circle Inspector, the protest was called off. The teacher has since been suspended pending further inquiry.
