Two women clashed over urea bags in Telangana’s Mahbubabad town, outside the Agros Rythu Seva Kendra at Vivekananda Centre.
They pulled each other’s hair and exchanged blows on the main road before two men stepped in to separate them. Some onlookers looked on, cheering and whistling.
The fight broke out as farmers queued up with Aadhaar card photocopies to collect fertiliser bags. The crowding led to jostling, which soon escalated into the altercation.
The video of the incident soon spread widely across social media platforms.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy responded to the incident, saying that urea stocks are available, but queues create confusion.
“When a crowd gathers in one place, the line looks long even if the stock is available. It’s like a movie, everyone gets a ticket if it’s a hit, but looking at the queue makes it seem endless," he said.
He added that waiting for hours often triggers frustration. “With 1,000 people in line, the last person has to wait 8 hours. Standing that long, without patience, he feels frustrated and claims there’s no urea, then sits on the road in protest," the Chief Minister explained.
The Telangana government earlier accused the NDA-led Centre of failing to deliver the assured urea allocation, leading to shortages, hardships for farmers, and sporadic protests across the state.
State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao claimed the Centre was “politically discriminating" against Telangana and accused BJP leaders of trying to “defame" the Congress government. He indicated that the shortage could be due to production stoppages at domestic urea plants or global factors disrupting supply.
Meanwhile, BRS and BJP blamed Revanth Reddy for mismanagement and fueling panic over the urea crisis.
