Telangana's beloved poet and lyricist, Ande Sri, renowned for the state anthem 'Jaya Jayahe Telangana', has passed away at 64. Found at his Hyderabad residence, his death has deeply saddened the state. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy hailed him as an "irrecoverable loss" and a voice for the poor, emphasizing his anthem's lasting legacy.
TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains mention of death.Telangana's celebrated Telugu poet and lyricist Ande Sri, best known for penning the state anthem 'Jaya Jayahe Telangana', passed away on Monday, November 10, in Hyderabad.
He was 64.As per a Republic TV report, Ande Sri's family found him lying on the floor at his residence in the morning. He was immediately rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Political leaders, writers, and artists across the state have been sharing their tributes online.
About Ande Sri
Born on July 18, 1961, in Rebarthi village of Telangana, Ande Sri lost his parents at a young age. He grew up as a shepherd, often finding solace in words and rhythm.
Over time, his passion for poetry blossomed, and he went on to compose nearly 3,000 poems, many of which became symbols of the Telangana people's hopes, struggles, and dreams.His works such as 'Janani Jaya Kethanam', 'Palle Neeku Vandanamulammo', 'Gala Gala Gajjalabandi', and 'Komma Chekkite Bommara' are celebrated.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expresses grief
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was among the first to express condolences, calling Ande Sri's death an "irrecoverable loss" to Telangana's literary world.
Sharing a message along with a picture of him on his X post, the Chief Minister wrote, "The death of Andeshri, the literary pinnacle of Telangana and the people's poet, has caused profound shock and sorrow. His passing is an irreplaceable loss not only to the literary world but also to me personally.
Andeshri, the great warrior who transformed his words into fuel in the Telangana movement and ignited eternal awareness in the people.
A selfless son of Telangana soil who always raised his voice for the poor."
He further added the anthem will alays remaing in the hearts of the people, "Even though Andeshri is no longer physically among us, the song 'Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani Jayaketanam,' the official anthem of the Telangana state, will forever remain etched in the hearts of the people as his enduring legacy," he wrote.
