Chess wunderkind Bodhana Sivanandan, a Brit of Indian origin, added yet another achievement to her burgeoning CV as she got the better of former World Champion Maria Muzychuk at the European Club Cup in Rhodes, Greece on Monday.

The 10-year-old, who recently became the youngest to get the better of a GM, added another accolade as she got the better of Ukrainian Muzychuk.

Bodhana made history by becoming the youngest girl to defeat a Grand Master at just 10 years old in the final round of the 2025 British Chess Championships, breaking a record held by American Carissa Shiwen Yip since 2019. Bodhana triumphed over the 60-year-old English chess GM Peter Wells.

Bodhana hails from Harrow, a town in Greater London, and is the daughter of Indian Tamil parents from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. She attends St John Fisher Primary School in Harrow.

In the European Schools age group championships held in Rhodes three years ago, Bodhana won all 24 matches she played, earning three gold medals.

Two years ago, Bodhana defeated veteran British chess player Peter Lee in an exhibition game. Last month, at the age of 10, she became the youngest chess player to earn a Woman GM norm, breaking Chinese GM Hou Yifan’s 20-year-old record.
