Tension gripped a remote village of Ramagiri mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district after a 14-year-old girl was reported to be pregnant, triggering the police presence at the locality.

According to the police, the girl, belonging to the Dalit community, was reportedly found in a visibly advanced stage of pregnancy. This forced the police authorities to intervene in the incident immediately.

Senior police personnel who visited the village launched an investigation to determine the facts behind the incident and identify those responsible. “A thorough investigation is underway. Strict legal action will be taken against the culprits,” a police officer said.

special team led by Circle Inspector Sridhar visited the village to probe the incident. However, the girl’s family was found to be missing from their home. As the doors were locked, the police could not record their statements.

The police said special parties were formed to trace the missing family. “The girl is a ninth-class student. Her father had expired several years ago, while her mother is said to be mentally unstable,” a police official said.

Police probing blackmail angle

Meanwhile, the police received disturbing inputs from the neighbourhood that the girl was allegedly subjected to blackmail and intimidation by a batch of at least fifteen youths in the village. To cover up the incident, some influential persons in the village and at the mandal level were said to have entered the scene for a mediation, assuring money to the victim’s family. However, the latter was said to have denied the deal and fled the village amidst this backdrop.
