Teona Mitevska's Mother, featuring Amrita Chattopadhyay as Madam Kumar, will inaugurate the Orizzonti Competition at the Venice International Film Festival. This marks Chattopadhyay's second appearance at a major international festival, following her role in 'A Knock on the Door' at Rotterdam in 2022. The actor expressed her gratitude for being part of the acclaimed film.
The upcoming Venice International Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia), beginning on August 27, will open its Orizzonti Competition section with Mother, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Teona Mitevska.The film features Amrita Chattopadhyay, who plays the role of Madam Kumar in what is described as a brief but pivotal part. This marks the actor’s second appearance at an A-list international festival, following A Knock on the Door, directed by Ranjan Palit, which was officially selected at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam in 2022. Mother also stars Noomi Rapace, Sylvia Hoeks and Nikola Ristanovski and others in important roles.

Sharing her excitement, Amrita said, “It’s Venice O’Clock! After A Knock on the Door at Rotterdam, this is my second official selection at an A-list festival. I’m grateful to have been part of Mother and to contribute, even in a small way, to a film that is receiving such recognition.”With Mother opening the Orizzonti Competition, anticipation is high around the film’s premiere at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.
