A school bus carrying 43 people overturned in Leander, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon, leaving several children injured, according to Fox7. Of the injured, two students were airlifted to hospital due to the severity of their injuries. The bus driver was also hurt in the incident.
The vehicle was transporting 42 students and one adult from Bagdad Elementary School, part of the Leander Independent School District (LISD). The crash occurred in the Sandy Creek neighbourhood.
Emergency crews responded swiftly, and a reunification centre for parents and guardians was established at Round Mountain Baptist Church to assist in safely reuniting families with students.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) confirmed the incident, while Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) reported that the crash occurred at approximately 3:16 p.m. ET in the 22000 block of Nameless Road, near Palamino Ranch Drive and Honeycomb Lane.

School officials stated that all parents and guardians were promptly notified. “Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students," said Dr Barnes, Superintendent of Cleveland ISD, while speaking to ABC13.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Leander ISD confirmed that the bus was part of its fleet and noted that the incident occurred on the first day of the school year.
