The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) has decided to take up a special drive to help those planning to establishing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in all major cities, towns and industrial areas in its purview with the increase in use of EVs, both passenger and transport vehicles, and two/three wheelers.

Chairman and Managing Director of the TGSPDCL Md. Musharraf Faruqui said here on Tuesday that a special head was created in the Discom’s SASA app to make the process for applying for EV charging stations easy. On being contacted by the entrepreneurs willing to set up EV charging stations, the assistant engineers of the area concerned would visit the location and register the details for carrying forward the process.

They would collect the details of the location along with GPS coordinates, category of the location, land ownership - private or government, whether it’s accessible to the general public, extent of land along with parking area, distance from the nearby electricity transmission/distribution network and others, the CMD stated.

Along with Director (Operations) Narasimhulu, Metro Zone Chief Engineers Prabhakar, Superintending Engineer Venkanna and others, the CMD visited the vehicle parking areas on the State Secretariat premises to explore the possibility of setting up EV public charging stations (EV PCS) there.

He explained that the drive was being initiated under the Pradhan Mantri Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, under which 70% to 100% subsidy for infrastructure is being provided based on the category of the location. Along with Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation V. Anila, the CMD of TGSPDCL held a meeting with charge point operators last week.

Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, benchmark costs for developing upstream infrastructure and claiming subsidy for EV PCS ranges from ₹6.04 lakh (ut to 50 kW) to ₹24 lakh (above 150 kW) and for EV supply equipment the benchmark costs range from ₹7.25 lakh (50 kW) to ₹11.68 lakh (100 kW).

The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) has fixed the energy charges of ₹6 per unit for EV charging stations for tariff year 2025-26 along with fixed/demand charges of ₹100 per kVA/month (connection).
