Days before the reopening of educational institutions, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has increased the bus pass fares for students effective Monday, June 9. The revised bus pass fares include those for the general public, according to a press note issued by the department. This fare hike follows on the heels of a similar step taken by the Hyderabad Metro Railway. The student bus pass for Hyderabad and Warangal which used to be ₹400 will now be ₹600.

Student bus fares have not been revised for the past three years. “There is a huge rush of student population in using the RTC buses in Hyderabad and suburban areas. Keeping this in mind, the students with bus passes will now be allowed to travel in Metro Express buses also,” according to the press note.

“The National Highway Authority of India revises its toll gate fee every year. However, the TGSRTC has been absorbing this higher fee for the past few years. But now, the fee will be added to the ticket. This is in line with the GO 24 issued by the State government allowing TGSRTC to increase user charges,” says the release. This will not impact the city and suburban bus services as there no toll plazas within the city limits.
