Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Ayushmann Khurrana film continues to perform well, earns Rs 108 crore

Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's horror-comedy 'Thamma' is a box office hit, crossing Rs 100 crore in India. Rashmika shares insights into her character Tarka, an ancient being learning human emotions and finding her superpower in screaming. The film continues to perform strongly, building on the success of its franchise.

Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna is the fifth film in Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe. The film has continues to do well at the box office, earning over Rs 100 crore in India so far.

Box office performance

According to trade website Sacnilk, Thamma earned an estimated Rs 3.25 crore net in India on Thursday, taking its total domestic collection to Rs 108.25 crore.

The film opened with Rs 24 crore, collected Rs 55.6 crore in its first three days, and reached Rs 95.6 crore by the end of its first week.

It performed well on Tuesday with Rs 5.75 crore but saw a drop on Wednesday, earning Rs 3.65 crore. Thamma has already surpassed other films in the franchise, though matching Stree 2’s massive Rs 597.99 crore domestic total may be difficult.

Rashmika Mandanna on her character

Talking about her character, Rashmika told IANS, "I've realized Tarka is just picking up emotions through the journey because it's been like so many years that she's been alive, but she's also been in the forest.

So for her, like human emotions, humans are, you know, a fascinating species.""Like every time they cry, she's just wondering how they're crying. Every time they laugh, she's just wondering, 'oh, this is how you smile'. And she's trying to replicate that from Alok and things like that. Those are the minute details that I had worked on because, you know, I basically was like, okay, I'm an animal."She added, "If I were turned into a human, this is what I'd have to do.

So that's how I saw it. That's how I sort of performed it. And that's why she can't cry. Like she doesn't know how to cry. So all that she can do is scream. And screaming is her superpower. Like, so yeah, we've just sort of built around what we could."DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
