Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's horror-comedy 'Thamma' is set for a Diwali release, aiming for a double-digit opening despite modest advance bookings. The film, part of Maddock's successful franchise, is projected to earn around Rs 18-20 crore on its first day. Exploring vampire mythology, 'Thamma' boasts a star-studded cast and a wide release.
This Diwali, Thamma, a Maddock horror-comedy and the latest in their franchise after Stree 2, Munjya, and Bhediya, releases in Hindi. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, the film has crossed Rs 4 crore in advance bookings and is expected to open with a double-digit crore collection, though slightly below producers’ expectations.
Modest advance bookings
As of Monday evening, Sacnilk reported over 1,45,039 tickets sold across India for opening day, totaling Rs 4.06 crore. With half a day remaining, collections are expected to pick up, potentially reaching over Rs 6 crore.
Predicted opening day collections
According to a report published in Hindustan Times, trade experts have predicted a decent Diwali opening for Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, estimating first-day collections around Rs 18-20 crore.
Given the modest advance bookings—a surprising trend for a Maddock Films franchise—any earnings beyond this would be a bonus.Thamma is reportedly releasing on 4,000 screens across India. With no other Hindi films out on Diwali, it has a clear chance for a strong opening day, but it’s unlikely to match last year’s blockbuster releases like Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (Rs 35 crore) or Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns (Rs 32 crore).
A trade expert noted that reports suggesting a Rs 30-32 crore opening are surprising, given the film’s low pre-release hype.
