Luka Doncic addressed a controversial technical foul that pushed him close to a suspension. The Lakers star picked up his 15th technical of the season during the game, placing him one away from the automatic one-game suspension triggered by the NBA’s regular-season rules.
As there are roughly 20 games left, the timing creates a tense situation for Los Angeles during a tight playoff race in the Western Conference.Doncic did not hide his frustration after the final buzzer. The superstar guard explained that the call surprised him, especially since he believed similar comments from other players went unpunished.

The technical foul against Luka Doncic came during a heated stretch of the game.
Officials later indicated that profanity directed toward referees triggered the call. The Lakers guard disagreed with that explanation and spoke openly about the moment when asked about it after the game.“I heard three other players say the exact same sentence and didn't get a tech,” Doncic said after the game. “And that's my problem. I was trying not to talk at all. This is the first thing I said, no warning or nothing.
But I heard three other players say the exact same thing and nothing. … I don't know what to say.”The technical was the 15th of his season. Under NBA rules, a player receives an automatic one-game suspension after collecting 16 technical fouls during the regular season. Each additional two technicals also leads to another suspension.“Don't get another tech… We’ll see. Can’t predict the future,” Doncic added.
JJ Redick responds to Luka Doncic's competitive fire
Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged that Doncic’s passion often fuels his performance.
The former NBA sharpshooter, now guiding the team from the sideline, described the guard’s intensity as a key part of what makes him effective on the court.“I would much rather have someone who is going to go out every night and kill then someone you have to revive with a defibrilator every night.”The Lakers rely heavily on his ability to control the offense, create scoring opportunities, and dictate tempo. His chemistry with teammates, including frontcourt players in pick-and-roll situations, has become an important part of the team’s offensive structure.
