A McDonald's outlet in Taupo is getting a lot of attention online, and it is not just because of the food. What has caught people’s interest is the unusual setting of the restaurant.
At this location, a real aircraft has been placed inside the restaurant space, turning it into a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
A dining area inside a real aircraft
The biggest attraction at the Taupo outlet is a retired Douglas DC-3 airplane that has been redesigned so visitors can step inside and have their meals there.A video shared on Instagram recently showed the aircraft and the seating area inside it, giving viewers a look at how the plane has been arranged to serve as a dining space for customers. While sharing the video online, the account wrote, “This coolest McDonald’s has a real retired DC-3 airplane built right into the restaurant, where you can eat inside the plane and peek into the original cockpit.”
Cockpit still looks ready for use
Another detail that caught viewers’ attention in the video was the aircraft’s cockpit. It has been kept in very good condition and still looks almost ready for use, adding to the experience for visitors.
The aircraft used at the restaurant is a Douglas DC-3 originally manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company.
As mentioned in a report by News 18, the plane is about 64 feet 8 inches long and has a wingspan of around 95 feet 2 inches. In its normal setup, the DC-3 can carry between 21 and 32 passengers. For the restaurant concept, the original seats were removed so the inside space could be redesigned and converted into a seating area for customers.
Social media reactions
After the video was shared online, many users reacted to the unusual dining experience. One user joked, “McDonald’s in a McDonnell Douglas.”Another comment read, “They should have a McDonald’s amusement park now."Someone else wrote, “The rare McDonald Douglas DC-3.”The aircraft also received appreciation from aviation fans.
