'The Fantasic Four' star Julia Garner confirms Madonna biopic is still in the works; shares her audition story and more

Julia Garner has been cast to play Madonna in the pop icon’s biopic. The project, which has been in development since 2022, confirmed the cast the same year. Later reports stated the project was scrapped for the time being due to various reasons.

Julia Garner, however, has officially confirmed that the project is still happening and “in the works”.

The actress, who was last seen in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’‧ as the new Silver Surfer, recently opened up about her film project, a biopic on the life of Madonna. She delved into how she managed to get the assignment, what all she went through, and everything else. During her appearance on the latest episode of the ‘SmartLess podcast’, the actress shared that the Madonna biopic is still happening and is still in the works.

She cited that being a huge fan of the icon inspired her to audition for the role when she first heard of the project. “It just came about… like I knew that they were doing a project, making a movie about it, and then I went out to audition. II kind of just wanted to see if I could do it”, the actress added. She also talked about her audition experience as well, saying that she had a hard time preparing for the audition, and had to ask herself, “what would Madonna do?”Garner also revealed that she had to learn how to dance for the role ass well since she was not traned herself, but wished to do justice to the role.

About the Madonna biopic

The project has been in discussion since 2022, when the actress was actually cast as the lead in the film. Later on however, in 2023, the film was put “on hold” as reported by Variety. Garner and Madonna stayed in touch however, and in July 2024, it was confirmed by Madonna herself that there is a script, as well as a title for the movie.
