Rashmika Mandanna's latest romance drama, 'The Girlfriend', directed by Rahul Ravindran, had a moderate opening at the box office. The film on its first Monday keeps a decent pace adding Rs 1.10 crore as per the early estimates.According to trade analyst Sacnilk, the Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty starrer opened with Rs 1.3 crore at the box office. The numbers later increased to Rs 2.4 crore on Saturday and then added another Rs 2.7 crore on Sunday. The film has received positive word of mouth and has added Rs 1.10 crore on its first Monday. This brings the total to Rs 7.50 crore.
Theatrical occupancy
Speaking about the film's theatrical occupancy. On its first weekday, the movie had an overall 19.16% occupancy in Telugu.
The morning shows begin at 14.61% occupancy. Later, it peaked at 22.55% recording the highest occupancy of the day in the afternoon. Then it saw a slight dip with 18.49% occupancy in the evening and a small increase to 20.99% during the night.
About 'The Girlfriend'
The leading lady, Rashmika Mandanna, has been praised for her performance in the film. Many internet users even went on to call it her "career best performance". In the movie, she is seen as Bhooma Devi, who is doing post-graduation.
She gets caught up in a complex and volatile relationship in college. Bhooma is gaslighted and emotionally stifled by her boyfriend Vikram, played by Dheekshith Shetty, who presents as a college heartthrob but exhibits possessive and controlling behavior behind the facade.Additionally, Rahul Ravindran's screenplay is commended for its honest, unvarnished depiction of uncomfortable realities. Though the movie had a slow start at the box office, it picked up based on word-of-mouth.The movie also features Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini in key roles.
