Recently, it was confirmed that the film will soon make its way to online streaming platforms. The film, which offers a contemporary spin on a classic divorce narrative, is set to premiere on the JioHotstar on November 20, 2025.

Premise of ‘The Roses’

The film has managed to garner a lot of praise, and was created as a modern-day reimagining of Warren Adler’s 1981 novel as well as the 1989 movie ‘The War of the Roses’. The film follows the story of a married couple, played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, who are at the end of their marriage and wish to try one last time to revive the magic.

The result? Couples therapy for the two of them. Theo and Ivy boast a perfect marriage on screen with successful careers and children who love them; however, under the perfection lies the cracks that start to seep through. The dark comedy then follows them along on their dysfunctional journey of competitiveness and resentment. What makes matters worse is that while Theo’s career drops to nothing, his wife’s career as a chef thrives like nothing else, which she opened up after spending a lot of her life as a housewife.

The film only managed to earn approximately USD 51.21 million in its worldwide box office, while the Indian box office for the film stood at USD 0.222 million only.
