On a night that belonged to Indian cricket, emotions, pride and celebration flowed freely as Harmanpreet Kaur’s team lifted the ICC Women’s World Cup for the very first time at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.After India sealed a 52-run win over South Africa to claim the historic title and as the celebrations marched on, the captain turned to the cameras during the celebrations and delivered a line that summed up the spirit of the moment. Pointing to the giant screen flashing “ICC Women’s World Cup India 2025”, Harmanpreet smiled and said, “... champion likhke aayega (there will be 'champions' written here).

The skipper, visibly overjoyed, was seen dancing her way to the podium before hoisting the trophy high into the air.

The celebration marked the culmination of years of pursuit as India’s women finally achieved what generations before them had narrowly missed. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who had played a crucial role throughout the tournament, joined in the celebrations, proudly posing with the glittering trophy as cameras captured her moment with the long-awaited prize.Watch the video here Earlier in the evening, Harmanpreet had received the World Cup trophy from ICC chairman Jay Shah.

The brief but emotional exchange between the two became one of the defining moments of the final. As she stepped forward to accept the trophy, Harmanpreet instinctively began to bow in respect, but her gesture was gently stopped with a nod.

On the field, India’s triumph was built collectively on a display of excellence. Shafali Verma’s 87 and Deepti Sharma’s all-round brilliance - her 55 runs and a five-wicket haul, powered the team to 298/7. South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt fought back with a composed 101, but India’s bowlers maintained their grip to secure the nation’s maiden women's world title.
