In a chilling case of saving family’s ‘honor’, a father killed his own daughter in Gujarat’s Banaskantha. As per an official statement by the police on Wednesday, 18-year-old has cracked National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). She was allegedly killed by her father and two uncles on June 24.
Danta division Assistant Superintendent of Police Suman Nala, the teen has quailed the exam with ‘good marks.’ “She had given NEET a few months back, but it is still unclear if she wanted to become a doctor or a nurse. As per the results announced recently, she has cleared the test with good marks," Nala was quoted as saying by PTI.
To prepare for the NEET exam, the victim shifted to Palanpur town, and during that time, she got into a live-in relationship with a man.
Girl’s Partner Filed A Complaint
Surprisingly, victim’s death was first considered a natural death. However, her live-in partner, Haresh Chaudhary, filed a complaint at the Tharad police in the district on August 6. Based on the findings, booked the girl’s father Sendhabhai Patel and uncle Shivrambhai Patel for the murder.
After the registration of FIR, police had arrested Shivrambhai and added the name of one Naran Patel to the FIR as co-accused
Girl’s family was against her relationship and wanted to marry her elsewhere. Haresh told the police that he received a text from the victim that read, “Come and get me; otherwise, my family will get me married against my will. If I don’t agree to the marriage, they will kill me. Save me."
As per the police official, Haresh is already married and has a son. He fell in love with the girl after he gave her a lift from Tharad town to Palanpur. It is unclear if the victim knew about his marital status.
In May, both eloped to Ahmedabad, where they signed a formal agreement for a live-in relationship. However, on June 12, a police team from Tharad and a relative of the girl tracked them down to a hotel in Rajasthan.
Chaudhary was arrested in an old case and while he was in jail he saw two messages from the victim on Instagram. She texted him on June 17 and expressed that she will be killed.
After reading the message, he contacted a lawyer, who filed a habeas corpus petition in the Gujarat High Court seeking that the girl be produced before the court.
However, on June 25, two days before the hearing, Chaudhary learnt that she had died on the night of June 24 and her last rites were also performed the next morning.
