While Ben Stokes led England dropped five catches during Australia’s first innings on the second day of the second Ashes Test at Brisbane, Will Jacks’ stunning catch to remove Steve Smith off the bowling of Brydon Carse in the 57th over over made the commentators as well fans praising the catch. The catch came three balls after Carse had removed Green with a yorker and with Smith pulling the ball into the air, Jacks took a single-handed catch at to make the Australian captain depart. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has termed Jacks’ catch as ‘as good of a catch I’ve ever seen’.

“This is as good of a catch as I’ve ever seen. Oh my word! It doesn’t get any better than that, that’s a piece of incredible movement from (Will) Jacks,” said former England captain Michael Vaughan on BBC Test Match Special.

Prior to Jacks’ screamer, England fielders had dropped two catches. Ben Duckett dropped Alex Carey first ball at gully post the dismissal of Green off the first ball of the over. Former England wicket-keeper Matt Prior too showered his praise over the catch terming the catch as ‘outstanding’. “Will Jacks, take a bow. That is an outstanding catch. It is exactly what we were talking about – the fielders getting behind the bowlers. He had to cover a huge amount of ground and he throws out a claw. It is an outstanding catch,” former England wicketkeeper Matt Prior said on TNT Sports.

Former England bowler Phil Tufnell too rated Jacks’ catch as one of the best catches he has seen at the Gabba. “That’s a cracker. We’ve seen some catches here at the Gabba but that’s right up there. England back in this now,” Phil Tufnell said on ABC Sport.

Prior though also criticised England over their dropped chances. “It’s difficult enough to take 20 wickets in a Test match, let alone the 25 England will now have to get because of the missed chances. We’ve been asked a lot, ‘how did you win in 2010-11?’ Our fielding was on point – it was outstanding, every chance we got, we took. That is the difference in a big series like this, if you’re going to win in Australia, that’s the standard you need to have.” Prior said on TNT Sports.
