On Sunday, Carlsen got the better of Arjun Erigaisi and Praggnanandha to secure his place in the game to determine the third-place.

Hans Moke Niemann will face his American counterpart Levon Aronian in the finals, while Carlsen is set to compete against the world number two, American Hikaru Nakamura, for third place in the USD 750,000 prize money event.
Carlsen’s journey was marked by two eventful matches after being denied a chance to win the event by Praggnanadhaa. The Indian player began with another victory against the world’s best in the first game of their mini-match. Carlsen struck back in the return game and won the subsequent set of games to stay in the event.
In his next match, Arjun initially enjoyed some opening advantage in the first game but couldn’t maintain it, while Carlsen proved superior in the second game once again.
On the final day, Arjun will face Fabiano Caruana of the United States for the fifth-place play-off, while Praggnanandhaa will compete for the seventh place against another American, Wesley So.
Nakamura admitted he was fortunate, winning 1.5-0.5 against Wesley So, and then defeating Fabiano Caruana 3-1 in a match with fluctuating fortunes.
All eyes will be on Niemann, the lowest-ranked player in the last-8 stage, as he fights for the USD 200,000 prize against comeback king Aronian.
