COIMBATORE: The Race Course police arrested three autorickshaw drivers on Wednesday on charges of robbing three guest workers of Rs 13,000. The arrested men have been identified as K Mohammed Azharuddin, 25, of Ponvizha Nagar First Street at Pullukadu in Ukkadam, B Nowfal Basha, 29, of Thennampalayam and R Senthilkumar, 33, of Selvapuram North Housing Unit in Coimbatore city.
They are friends.Ali Kadar Sheik and Kushal Biswas from West Bengal, who are working in a hotel at Coonoor in the Nilgiris district, returned to Coimbatore from their hometown on Tuesday afternoon and approached the autorickshaw drivers to go to the Mettupalayam Road bus stand. Shivkumar, 17, from Uttar Pradesh, who is working at Madukkarai in Coimbatore district also reached Coimbatore railway station from his hometown on Tuesday afternoon.
He approached the autorickshaw drivers to travel to Madukkarai. Sheik and Biswas travelled in one auto while Shivkumar travelled in another. The guest workers were not familiar with the local areas. The auto drivers roamed with the youths through various areas in the city. They demanded Rs 4,000 from Shivraj. When he refused, the three auto drivers threatened him and received the amount from his parents and relatives through UPI transactions. Likewise, the trio robbed the two other guest workers of Rs 9,000.
