The three-day police custody for former Agriculture Minister and Sarvepalli MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy ended on Sunday evening. He was produced before a medical team and after the mandatory tests, was sent back to the central prison.

The fourth accused in the illegal quartz mining scam, Mr. Govardhan Reddy reportedly maintained his cool, even as the police team led by the investigating officer Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao grilled him at the Krishnapatnam police station for hours.

As on the first two days, the former Minister’s replies were reportedly guarded and evasive at the same time, according to sources. His bail petition is expected to come up once again for hearing on Monday.

Meanwhile, Sarvepalli MLA and former Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, who is an arch rival of Kakani Govardhan Reddy, announced that justice would prevail at the end and those involved in the scores of scams during the erstwhile YSR Congress Party regime would be punished.

While participating in the NTR centenary celebrations organised by the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) Australia wing in Melbourne on Saturday, he said the ‘power-thirsty and money-hungry’ politicians would have to face the law, in a veiled reference to Mr. Govardhan Reddy.

Mr. Somireddy narrated how he had been framed in 18 fake cases during the YSRCP regime and how he had come out unscathed. The TDP leader also explained how he climbed up the political ladder with the inspiration and support of the legendary NTR.
