Three die of suspected asphyxiation while working in a sump

Three labourers were ‘asphyxiated to death’ in a sump at an under-construction Mission Bhagiratha reservoir in Unjupalli village of Charla mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, late on Tuesday afternoon.

According to sources, the victims were identified as Mahesh, 36, Tulasiram, 37, and Ishaq, 45. They met with a tragic end after stepping into the sump to fetch water for laying the slab over the under-construction reservior.

Sources said that the trio died due to suspected asphyxiation. Another labourer was rescued by local villagers. The Charla police have registered a case and are investigating.
