Three people drowned and one person is reported missing as relentless rainfall continued to wreak havoc in the district on Saturday.
Twenty-three-year-old Steve Rajesh, a native of Haripad, drowned while fishing in a country boat at the Pallippady paddy field in the early hours of Saturday. He had gone to the field with two friends when the boat capsized. The other two was brought to safety.
Steve and his family, who had been residing in Odisha, had returned to their native village two weeks ago. They were planning to return to Odisha on Sunday when the tragic accident occurred.
In separate incidents, 45-year-old Padmakumar and 70-year-old Anirudhan were found dead in waterlogged areas near their respective homes.
P.C. Ranjith, 40, a native of Muhamma, had gone missing after he went fishing in Vembanad Lake on Friday evening. Despite efforts by the Fire and Rescue Services from Alappuzha, his body has not yet been recovered, police said.
