The Begur police have arrested a gang of three persons on the charge of stealing batteries from vehicles parked on the road.
Based on a complaint by an SUV owner, the police tracked down the accused, identified as Surendra Kumar, 33, from Rajasthan, working as a labourer in the city, and his associates, Tousif, 30, and Arifulla Khan, 50.
The trio used to allegedly move around residential areas and steal vehicle batteries and sell them. With their arrest, the police have recovered 24 batteries of different types of vehicles worth ₹11.5 lakh, and solved eight theft cases reported in and around the city.
