Three injured after tree falls on bikes during rain in Chittoor

Three persons were severely injured when a large tree fell on two motorbikes during a downpour at Mastani Ammaji Mosque Centre here on Friday midnight.

According to the Chittoor urban police, the injured were riding two bikes when the incident occurred. Due to heavy rain and winds, the roadside tree was uprooted and fell on the bikers.

The police from the One and Two Towns and Traffic station rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the emergency ward at the District Government Hospital. The police had to deploy heavy machinery to remove the debris and clear the traffic on the road. The hospital authorities informed the police that the three injured were out of danger, though sustained severe injuries.

Responding to the incident, Superintendent of Police V.N. Manikanta Chandolu appealed to the public to avoid riding motor vehicles during heavy rains and thunderstorms. He said that a special party was formed to identify weakened trees along the internal roads and highways.
