Three-member gang arrested on charges of robbery

The Madanyakanahalli police on Thursday arrested a gang of three men who were involved in the armed robbery of a jewellery shop on Machohalli Main Road on July 25.

The accused have been identified as Mohammed Rafiq, Mohammed Ifteqhar, and Ramshad, and were residents of Udupi, Mangaluru, and Odisha.

They were habitual offenders and were involved in over 24 criminal cases across the State.

The accused, along with another associate, barged into Ram Jewellers, threatened the staff members at gunpoint, and escaped with gold ornaments.

The owner was preparing to shut the shop for the day when the masked robbers barged in brandishing firearms and started looting the ornaments on the display table and escaped in a car.

Based on the complaint filed by the shop owner, the police tracked down the accused. The fourth accused in the case was on the run, and efforts were on to track him down, the police said.
