Just three months after its inauguration, the Bengaluru metro’s Yellow Line, which connects the city’s southern corridors and Electronics City, has already faced three technical snags, with the latest occurring on Wednesday morning.

On October 16, train set number 2, which was scheduled to begin operations from the depot at 7.04 a.m., was delayed by about 45 minutes due to an air pressure suspension fault, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official sources. Metro officials said the issue was rectified swiftly, and services resumed with minor delays.

This marks the third such disruption on the 18.82-km Yellow Line stretch connecting R.V. Road and Bommasandra since it opened for commercial operations on August 11, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it.

Minor issues, says BMRCL

Earlier, on September 22 and October 12, the yellow line experienced brief service interruptions caused by technical issues. Responding to concerns about the repeated glitches, a senior official from the BMRCL said the problems were minor and not very serious.

“Each of these incidents involved a different issue and not a recurring fault in any particular train set. The Yellow Line uses a new generation of trains compared to the Purple and Green Lines, and as we transition to this advanced system, occasional technical adjustments are expected. These are minor teething issues, and all trains have been tested thoroughly as per protocol,” the official said.

The Yellow Line is the first in Bengaluru metro’s network to deploy driverless trains under the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, a shift from the conventional DTG (distance-to-go) technology used on purple and green lines of the Namma Metro.
