Three-tier security cover for EVM strongrooms in Patna

Patna: Rigorous security protocols have been put in around the strongrooms at A N College, which house the EVMs and VVPAT units. The strongrooms are under a three-layered security cordon.

Furthermore, 15 magistrates and police officers have been deputed to oversee the premises across three shifts daily.DM Thiyagarajan SM is also conducting daily inspections of the strongroom premises.According to the Election Commission guidelines, training is being provided to all the officers concerned and personnel in two phases to successfully complete the counting of votes scheduled to start from 8am on Nov 14.

The first phase of training was held on Monday, and the second phase will be organised on Nov 13.Six district-level master trainers and officials provided training on all aspects of counting and technical tasks to all the trainees, as per the prescribed standards. At each counting table, there will be a counting supervisor and a counting assistant from the returning officer’s (RO) side. Additionally, a micro observer is appointed at each table as the representative of the observer of the EC.

The DM said several teams will be active for the successful execution of the counting work and related post-counting tasks.For security, one platoon of CISF and two platoons of CRPF have been deployed under the first tier of security. For the second and third tiers, one company of BSAP and 12 sections of District Armed Police (DAP) have been deployed, respectively.Three police officers and 12 magistrates are stationed in the CCTV camera control room.“All contesting candidates were informed in writing that they could appoint their representatives to monitor the security arrangements of the polled EVM strong room. Candidates and their representatives are allowed to remain outside the inner cordon,” the DM said. The CCTV display of the strong room has also been made available for the candidates. They can view all activities through the CCTV from a designated spot inside the premises.
