Actor and producer Shweta Tripathi is stepping into a new creative role with the announcement of her first feature film as producer—a queer love story aimed at breaking stereotypes and sparking meaningful dialogue.
The project will feature acclaimed actress Tillotama Shome in a pivotal role, marking a significant collaboration between the two artists. Directed by filmmaker Sanjoy Nag, the film is slated to go on floors by the end of 2025. Earlier this year, Shweta had hinted that her debut production would focus on a queer narrative. With Tillotama Shome now officially part of the cast, the project gains emotional depth and industry attention. This marks the first time the two actors will work together on screen. The announcement follows the success of Shweta’s previous queer-themed stage production Cock, a play lauded for its honest and powerful portrayal of identity and love. Buoyed by the positive response, Shweta is now expanding her creative vision from theatre to cinema. In an official statement, Shweta shared her excitement about the film: "This film is very close to my heart — not just because it’s my first as a producer, but because of what it stands for.
Queer love stories deserve to be told with honesty, beauty, and nuance. Having Tillotama on board makes this even more special. She’s not just a phenomenal actor, she’s also someone I deeply admire and trust. We’ve been wanting to work together for a long time, and I can’t think of a better project to begin this journey with.
" With this cinematic venture, Shweta Tripathi hopes to amplify underrepresented voices and offer a narrative that is both tender and transformative. Details regarding the film’s title, full cast, and release schedule are expected to be announced in the coming months.
