Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Narapureddy Mourya expressed displeasure over the continued indifference among the citizens, who were found to be flouting the norms and dumping garbage in public places, in spite of the repeated pleas from the civic body.
During an inspection of Reservoir Colony and SVIMS Hospital localities in the city’s 30th division on Wednesday, she asked the residents whether garbage was being picked from their houses on a regular basis by designated vehicles. Following this conversation, she expressed displeasure over the attitude of some residents who were continuing to turn a deaf ear to the pleas of the corporation and dumping garbage in public places.
“Though we send our vehicles to every locality and depute our staff to pick up the garbage at your doorstep, there are some who fail to utilise the services and continue to dump it at street corners and under trees. This will not be tolerated any more,” she said.
Ms. Mourya also expressed dissatisfaction over solid waste being dumped into open drains, which led to clogging of sewer lines. This resulted in sewage water overflowing onto the streets at several places.
The official also asked SV Ayurvedic Hospital staff not to dump their medical waste in public places.
