Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar praised policemen as a “protective shield for society” and appealed to the public to honour these unsung heroes.

Participating in the Police Commemoration Day event at the parade grounds on Tuesday, Mr. Venkateswar laid a wreath at the police memorial and paid tribute to the departed officers.

Speaking on the occasion, he urged the public to hold policemen in high regard for their invaluable service in maintaining internal security and public order. “Their supreme sacrifice will be remembered forever by posterity,” he said, appealing to citizens to support the families of policemen and provide all possible assistance in times of need.

Earlier, he observed a two-minute silence as the names of policemen who died in the line of duty were read aloud.

Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu recalled the contributions of 25 policemen who lost their lives on duty in the district this year. “The department runs several welfare schemes for police families and will continue to support our officers,” he reassured, while felicitating the families of the martyred policemen with shawls and mementoes.

Additional Superintendents J. Venkat Rao (Administration), Ravi Manoharachary (Law and Order) and Nagabhushana Rao (Crime), along with other senior officials participated in the event.
